Terrorism and Radicalisation in Prisons: High-Level Conference in Israel

The International High-Level Conference “Terrorism and Radicalisation in Prisons” took place in Herzliya, Israel, between the 2nd and the 6th of September 2018.

The Conference has been organised by the Israel Prison Service in conjunction with the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT), in the framework of the World Counter-terrorism Summit, and it gathered more than 50 Prison Directors-General from around the world.

The Conference – which counted with the presence of the Hon. MK Gilad Erdan, Minister of Public Security, Strategic Affairs and Information of Israel – included lectures given by national and international senior officials and experts, roundtable discussions, a visit to a high-security prison housing terrorism convicts, and a demonstration of the capabilities of the Israel Prison Service’s special units.

Mr Pedro das Neves, IPS_Innovative Prison Systems’ CEO, addressed the audience with a communication on the European projects on the prevention of radicalisation in which the company is involved, with a focus on the multilevel certification programme that has resulted from the R2PRIS – Radicalisation Prevention in Prison project.
