PRACTICIES project: Working against radicalisation in cities

Gathering networks of cities’ organisations and experts to better understand, prevent and address violent radicalisation.

The kick-off meeting of the PRACTICIES project has taken place at the Fundación Universidad Rey Juán Carlos, in Madrid, between May 31st and June 2nd, 2017.

PRACTICIES stands for Partnership against Violent Radicalization in the Cities; it consists in a multilateral transnational project supported by the European Commission by way of the Horizon 2020, a dedicated European Union Programme for Research and Innovation (Security).

The main goals of this project are to understand violent radicalization phenomena across Europe, starting from their origins; under this initiative, a series of concrete tools and prevention practices will be developed. PRACTICIES also aims to evaluate the existing procedures of registration and identification of youth in the process of radicalization in urban spaces and to explain the social course of transition into radical action.

To achieve its objectives, the project relies on the cooperation and experience of 25 partners, including law enforcement agencies, municipalities, governments, and private organizations.

The Portuguese partners in this projects include DGRSP – Direção Geral de Reinserção e Serviços Prisionais (Ministry of Justice), Amadora City Hall and IPS_Innovative Prison Systems.
