Working with road traffic offenders: BriSaR project approved

The BriSaR project focuses on adapting an existing programme in Portugal (a programme called STOP – Responsibility and Safety, which is targeted at Road Code violators) and update it in line with the research evidence and offender expectations. The project will support correctional staff in prison and probation settings to work more effectively with those offenders who have been sentenced for road traffic offences.

The project will support correctional staff in prison and probation settings to work more effectively with those sentenced for road offences. The project comprises the development of the programme and its piloting in three locations.

The main components of the project are 1) capacity building; and 2) continuous vocational training for correctional staff. The innovation consists in developing an existing programme in light of research evidence and good practices. Moreover, it counts with the co-participation of the offenders themselves.

The aim of BriSaR is to develop and pilot an evidence-based intervention for those offenders who have been sentenced for road offences, such as driving without a license, driving an unregistered car, driving a car with forged registration plates, driving dangerously or drink driving.

The consortium involved in this project is led by the Romanian firm European Strategies Consulting. Partners of BriSaR project include IPS_Innovative Prison Systems (Qualify Just IT solutions and Consulting), from Portugal, Loyola University Foundation Andalucia, in Spain, the Turkish Ministry of Justice – namely the Probation Directorate Ankara,  the Directorate-General for Reintegration and Prison Services, from Portugal and Aproximar CRL, from Portugal.
