IPS Shares Innovations and Insights at the ICPA Annual Conference in Singapore

IPS (Innovative Prison Systems) recently concluded a successful participation in the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) Annual Conference, held in Singapore from September 1st to the 6th. This prestigious event brought together over 900 participants from more than 80 countries, including correctional leaders, professionals, researchers, and members of the public, private, and non-profit sectors.

As a Silver Corporate Member of the ICPA, IPS played an active role in both presentations and discussions throughout the event, aligning with the conference’s theme, “Enabling Desistance: Beyond Recidivism.” A key highlight of IPS’s participation was the presentation of HORUS 360º iOMS, an all-in-one intelligent Offender and Jail Management System, at their exhibition booth. HORUS 360º is a groundbreaking tool designed to modernize the management of correctional systems and sentence execution.

One of the focal points of IPS’ participation was a presentation by IPS’s Chief Research Officer & Portfolio Coordinator, Pedro Liberado, on September 2nd. His session, titled “Closer to Success? Enhancing prison, probation, and community actors’ skill-set on assessing risk and vulnerabilities to extremist viewpoints through updated tools and mixed-method training” explored the latest findings from two groundbreaking IPS-partnered projects: MIRAD (Multi-Ideological Radicalisation Assessment towards Disengagement) and R2COM (Radicalisation and Violent Extremism Prevention in the Community).

Pedro Liberado highlighted how these projects are driving progress in the field of radicalization prevention by enhancing the ability of prison, probation, and community staff to assess risks and vulnerabilities through innovative tools and mixed-method training. The presentation underscored the need for continuous improvement in skill development among professionals who assess and manage individuals at risk of radicalization, using up-to-date methodologies and practical training approaches.

Throughout the conference, IPS’ CEO Pedro das Neves participated in key discussions as part of the ICPA Board of Directors Meetings and ICPA Network Groups. He also moderated two important panels. The first, held on September 3, was centered on Work Preparation, addressing key topics such as the transition from prison to employment, professionalizing work in correctional facilities, and apprenticeship programs in Western Australia. The second panel, on September 5, covered Responding to Correctional Challenges, which included discussions on overcoming barriers to recovery from delinquency, providing spiritual care in detention, and navigating the complexities of the Australian criminal justice system.

The week-long event provided IPS with a valuable platform to engage with global correctional leaders and professionals, sharing insights and discussing advancements in the field. Visitors to the IPS booth had the opportunity to explore the HORUS 360º iOMS system, the latest edition of the JUSTICE TRENDS Magazine, and learn more about the company’s work.
