Portuguese Deputy Prime Minister Paulo Portas and the Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci signed a Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) agreement in Lisbon (Laranjeiras Palace, 27 June 2014) with the aim of raising bilateral trade.
Minister Zeybekci stated that the signed JETCO agreement would be a new beginning for Turkish-Portuguese relations and added that Turkey offers many opportunities for Portuguese companies especially in the fields of energy and transportation. Deputy Prime Minister Paulo Portas said that both countries are ready to facilitate private sector initiatives to develop economic relations.
Prior to signing the agreement, Mr. Portas and Mr. Zeybekci met over breakfast with a dozen of portuguese companies representatives (IPS Innovative Prison Systems also being represented by Mr. Pedro das Neves) that are currently operating in turkey or that have a particular interest in the turkish market.
