IPS showcases innovative paths against extremism at 7th Nordic Conference

At the 7th Nordic Conference in Aarhus, Denmark, IPS Innovative Prison Systems presented three initiatives that bring research and innovation to the fight against extremism at both local and international levels.

Last week in Aarhus, at the 7th Nordic Conference, IPS had the privilege of presenting three of our partnered initiatives rooted in research and innovation, addressing extremism from multiple angles.

Over the two days of international discussions , we presented:

  • R2COM and its TV-RAT tool: a community-driven assessment tool (Transitioning Vulnerabilities to Radicalisation Assessment Tool) designed for NGOs working in post-release settings, to help gauge risks and tailor support. R2COM aims to boost NGOs’ capacities to follow up with individuals exiting prison who may be vulnerable to radicalisation.
  • VicTory: a cross-country initiative to examine hate crime and extremism including the victims perspective, and build a victim-centered approach to handling and managing hate and extremism incidents.
  • IN2PREV: promoting stronger synergies between NGOs and law enforcement to foster refugee integration as a form of radicalisation prevention. IN2PREV develops tools such as the FEVR-SES (Frontline Extremism Vulnerability Risk – Structured Evaluation Screening) to help frontline practitioners assess vulnerability risk among refugees, complemented by mentoring programmes and training.

During the conference, we engaged with these critical questions: how can we better support individuals after release? How should victim voices reshape counter-extremism policies? What role should refugee inclusion play in preventing radicalisation? It was also a vital space for networking, exploring upcoming collaborations, and exchanging insights with key stakeholders across the field.

IPS remains deeply committed to radicalisation prevention through research, innovation, and multi-stakeholder cooperation. Alongside projects like R2COM, VicTory, and IN2PREV, our wider portfolio continues to deliver important outcomes, strengthening policies, building capacities, and supporting practitioners across Europe and beyond in addressing violent extremism more effectively.
