An inspiring initiative by Aproximar, Cooperativa de Solidariedade Social – in which IPS proudly serves as a social investor – has been honoured with the prestigious BPI Fundação "la Caixa" Infância Award. The groundbreaking project strengthens the bonds between young incarcerated parents and their children, offering crucial support to families in vulnerable contexts at the Leiria Juvenile Correctional Facility.
IPS is immensely pleased to congratulate Aproximar, Cooperativa de Solidariedade Social on their well-deserved achievement of the BPI Fundação “la Caixa” Infância Award with the inspiring Project Criança. This initiative, aimed at strengthening the bonds between young incarcerated parents and their children, marks a significant milestone in supporting families in vulnerable contexts and promises a meaningful impact at the Leiria Juvenile Correctional Facility.
The Project Criança stands out for its training of community mentors to work on parenting skills directly with young incarcerated parents. Additionally, the creation of a fully equipped and welcoming visitation space for children, families, and young parents demonstrates a tangible commitment to humanising family relationships.
This innovative experience, starting in Leiria, will later be replicated in other correctional facilities, amplifying its positive impact.
The project brings renewed hope to young incarcerated individuals and their families, especially to children who, despite challenging circumstances, deserve to experience the presence and love of their parents. By fostering stronger family bonds and providing much needed support, this initiative paves the way for healthier relationships, personal growth, and a brighter future for both parents and children.
IPS is deeply honoured to be a partner in this project as social investors, acknowledging the importance of initiatives that transcend barriers and create real opportunities to transform lives, fostering a better future for everyone involved.
