AWARE project 1st Training

Knowledge and strategies exchange in AWARE’s first joint staff training

The main goal of this training event was to expand and exchange different kinds of knowledge, methods and strategies to build awareness on the mental health needs of offenders and the cross-sectoral integration in resettlement.

The first short-term joint staff training (STJST) under the AWARE project was held in Bremen from 3 para 5 Junho 2019.

This training event, which was organised by Bremen Ministry of Justice, focused on the transfer of good practices, benefits of transnational knowledge transfer and what works to integrate cross-sectoral colleagues in a community of practice.

The participants represented a variety of stakeholders including, prison and probation staff, mental health support professionals (statutory and non-profit) and trainers from civil society organisations/ volunteer managers.

AWARE “Cross-sectoral awareness building on mental health needs in the criminal justice system and on release” is an integrated response to non-discrimination and social inclusion of those who suffer from the double challenge and stigma of both a criminal record and mental health problems.

In the scope of the AWARE project, training materials will be developed for people working in the criminal justice system, as well as for the communities and the families of prisoners, both to raise awareness and to offer practical support. The goal is to achieve a better level of support for mental health patients at critical points during their prison term and after release.
