IPS_Innovative Prison Systems is a key partner in a new initiative aimed at promoting digital democracy and citizenship among Europe’s youth. Bringing together NGOs, tech companies, research bodies, and universities, this collaboration strives to equip young people with crucial skills for civic engagement, social inclusion, and employability in an increasingly digital world.
As digital technologies become more important in the different realms of daily life, the ability to effectively and safely participate in the digital space has become a crucial skill for civic engagement and, social inclusion, with clear repercussions for employability prospects. Emerging from the growing need to prepare youngsters to navigate this reality in a responsible and ethical manner, the DIGIDEM partnership is set to make a difference.
This initiative strives to educate young Europeans about their rights and responsibilities as digital citizens, which is essential for active and responsible civic participation. By raising awareness of digital ethics, online security and mutual respect in digital spaces, the partners are committed to strengthening democratic values and the key principles of respect and tolerance.
The project brings together NGOs, tech companies, research bodies and universities from France, Turkey, Portugal, Malta, Italy and Luxembourg.
With its expertise in developing practical, needs-oriented training courses, IPS plays a pivotal role in the creation of DIGIDEM’s education framework, while ensuring its accessibility and inclusivity for diverse learning environments, including non-traditional educational settings.
Leveraging their know-how, the IPS team will develop and integrate training modules and strategies for integrating digital citizenship education with marginalised populations, as well as create additional modules focused on cybersecurity.
IPS also brings a wealth of experience in creating secure, engaging, and innovative training platforms that prioritise user engagement and adapt to the specific needs of their audience. Drawing on this background, IPS will contribute to the development of the online platform centralising the initiative’s training offer, with the goal of providing a meaningful experience that can make digital citizenship education accessible and impactful.
This is part of the initiative’s educational efforts to create a complete and accessible digital citizenship education framework, which will be integrated into higher education institutions.
The DIGIDEM partnership will produce other major outputs, such as a comprehensive report tracing the progression of digital skills among students and best and promising practices within higher educational settings. To ensure its success, the project will also equip professionals with advanced self-training resources, thus building grounded sustainability.
Additionally, democratic participation will be a comprehensive investment throughout the project, doing so via awareness raising in various conferences, panels and workshops, designed to bring together decision-makers and experts with youngsters. The project consortium believes that the direct interaction will foster a sense of belonging to the European community and strengthens young people’s civic engagement.
DIGIDEM’s innovative approach lies in its comprehensive strategy to enhance digital literacy and civic engagement among European youth, positioning it as a key player in shaping a digitally competent and ethically aware generation. Furthermore, it will allow for the creating of long-lasting connections to be made between different sectors, contributing to a more integrated and empowered society in the digital space.
