Promoting sustainability in prisons through green competencies, education, and pathways to employment

The GreenPP project aims to align the European Sustainable Energy Award for Prisons (E-SeaP) programme with current advances in green initiatives by fostering a culture of sustainability and eco-friendly practices within prisons. This will be achieved through training and education in environmentally sustainability for prison staff and trainers, offering high-quality, participatory and digital approaches adapted to the needs of target groups.

The project also seeks to enhance the green skills of detained individuals in key areas to improve their employability and reintegration after incarceration, creating green career pathways and addressing labour shortages in the sector. A key component is the development of a ‘GreenLinks’ database to connect community-based environmentally conscious organisations and programmes with nearby prisons, encouraging volunteering and building stronger ties with green businesses to support reinsertion and career development.
